Who Are We?

The Gulf Coast Low Brass Academy is a non-profit organization dedicated to improving the music education of high school and middle school students along the Gulf Coast by offering in-depth masterclasses, unique ensemble performance opportunities, professional faculty performances, and comprehensive lectures related to Low Brass music and pedagogy.

Founded in 2019, the Gulf Coast Low Brass Academy is a ‘crash course’ in everything low brass related. Topics for lectures and masterclasses include appropriate warm-up/fundamental techniques, how to develop good practice habits, the finer points of instrument care and basic repair, what to look for in purchasing new instruments/gear, developing ear training techniques, the basics of improvisation in jazz, and more. In normal years, registered students also get the opportunity to perform with chamber groups, large ensembles, and a mass brass choir for the final performance of the week. The format for 2022 GCLBA will be a 2-day workshop.
